Sergei Rachmaninov’s Six Choruses Op 15 will be performed for the first time in Australia, two Russian arias from Tchaikovsky's Eugine Onegin plus the art-songs Sunset and None but the Lonely Heart will move the audience, opera choruses by Arenksky, Rubenstein and Tchaikovsky will delight, while other evocative works by Napravnik, Tanyeev and Borodin will round out the program. “This is music that goes straight to the heart - we believe the audience will feel strongly the sincerity and emotion in every piece” says Cowall. “We aim to spotlight in musical terms the various chambers of the Russian soul.”

Nicholas Cowall and Rohan Murray are passionate advocates for Russian music. Since they met at University over 25 years ago, they have enjoyed many collaborative musical projects, including the Australian premieres of Dimitri Shostakovich’s comic cantata Anti Formalist Rayok, Dimitri Bortnianky’s opera Alcide, and well as the world premiere of Andrew Ford’s Piae cantiones.
