We are proud to announce the first four events of our C & C Rigg Bequest Classic Music in Historic Venues recital series for 2022 - 2024. Working closely with four glorious historic venues in and around Melbourne (Labassa, Christ Church - South Yarra, Barwon Park - Winchelsea and Rippon Lea Estate Ballroom), we are excited to present wonderful guest performers in unusual and exciting programs, carefully devised to match each venue!
Concert 1 - L’Amore & Ludwig - Italian arias, love songs & Orix Duo at Labassa
This unique event in the National Trust’s lavish 19th-century mansion Labassa, allows the experience of enjoying two contrasting 45-minute recitals in the one afternoon, amid the building’s opulent architecture and impressive interiors. Mezzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell, tenor Michael Petruccelli with pianist Darrryl Coote, perform Italian arias and love songs in the Reception Room, while the outstanding young musicians of Orix Duo - Ye Jin Choi (cello) and Kevin Suherman (piano) - present Beethoven, Martinu and Casals in the Music Room. Our first Rigg Bequest Recital in the wonderful acoustics of the historic Anglican Christ Church - South Yarra features Erica Kennedy, founding first violinist of the Flinders Quartet as well as soloist and concertmaster, with Team of Pianists partner Rohan Murray (piano). Their recital showcases works by Beethoven, Brahms and Prokofiev, three of the greatest composers, at the height of their powers. Program and venue details here.

With the evocative melding of soprano voice, clarinet and piano, Judith Dodsworth, Robert Schubert and Robert Chamberlain present songs and stories of travel and homecoming, of love lost and found, and the joy of sharing music again. A journey through the glorious music of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Vaughan Williams, as well as distinguished Australian composers Margaret Sutherland (1897-1984), Lawrence Whiffin (1930-2012) and Julian Yu (b. 1957), taking in the worlds of opera, recital and chamber music, poetry and film.
